Microbiology is the study of minute living organisms, which cannot be seen with the naked eye.Micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoa) are fascinating creatures that support human life in various ways.It is an exceptionally broad discipline and it prepare the students for careers in medicine, dentistry, nursing, allied health professions,research, teaching, food and pharmaceutical industries.

The department was established on 18th November 2002 with undergraduate course. In 2011 postgraduate course was started.

For the last 12 years our department produces 100% results every year and our fabulous students earned University ranks and marked the top position of our college among the other educational institutions in the University.

  • Bacteriological examination of river water from different river stations of Periyar.

  • Analysis of antibacterial activity of various handwashes.

  • Study of antibacterial activity of tropical plants (Aloe vera, Citrus and Coleus aromaticus) against human pathogenic bacteria isolated from edible fishes.

  • Production of wine from different fruits and analysis of their acidity and alcohol content.

  • Microbiological assessment of raw milk samples.

  • Antimicrobial Activity of Plant Essential Oils against Pathogens Isolated from Clinical Samples.
